What is an Arthroscopy?

Keyhole, or arthroscopic knee surgery is a minimally invasive surgical technique used to diagnose and treat a variety of knee problems. Instead of making large incisions, Mr Ramisetty uses tiny cuts and inserts a slim camera (arthroscope) and specialised instruments directly into your knee. This approach offers accurate diagnosis and effective treatment while significantly reducing recovery times compared to traditional open surgery.

What Conditions Can Be Treated?

  • Torn meniscus (cartilage tears)
  • ACL and other ligament injuries

    What Happens During the Procedure?

    • Step 1: Preparation:
      The procedure usually involves local or general anaesthesia to ensure you’re comfortable throughout.
    • Step 2: Arthroscopy:
      Small incisions (around 1 cm) are made to insert the camera and instruments. The surgeon examines the knee joint in detail via a high-definition monitor.
    • Step 3: Treatment:
      Depending on your condition, your surgeon may remove damaged tissue, repair torn structures, or reshape cartilage and bone.
    • Step 4: Closing the Procedure:
      Once complete, the small incisions are closed, often using dissolvable stitches or steri-strips, and covered with dressings.
